AUDIO Cu FAQ's

What is AUDIO Cu?

AUDIO Cu is a groundbreaking sound over the power lines solution that enables home audio theater systems to operate without the need to run cumbersome speaker wire from an audio video receiver (AVR) to each speaker in any room or environment. With our pioneering proprietary technology, AUDIO Cu is an alternative to the AVR to deliver seamless, dependable, high resolution (Hi-Res), Dolby Digital®, Dolby TrueHD®, and Dolby Atmos® audio while providing unparalleled sound-effect control to up to ten (10) different speakers per system in configurations 2.0 to 9.1. AUDIO Cu saves you money. AUDIO Cu saves you time. AUDIO Cu saves you frustration. Work smarter, not harder, and move your sound over the power lines with AUDIO Cu.

How does AUDIO Cu work?

AUDIO Cu audio solution delivers tightly synchronized, high resolution (Hi-Res), Dolby Digital®, Dolby TrueHD®, and Dolby Atmos® audio data by leveraging sound over power technology. Simultaneously, AUDIO Cu’s proprietary and patented algorithms eliminate interference, thus substantially increasing speaker distances and channel count all while maintaining a very low audio latency. It allows for the synchronization of audio data over power in an asynchronous environment.

There is one (1) AUDIO Cu transmitter (TX) unit that is required for each audio system. AUDIO Cu’s TX utilizes the HDMI eARC/ARC output from the TV, decodes the sound, and moves the audio data through the power lines to each speaker or subwoofer AUDIO Cu receiver (RX) unit. The AUDIO Cu TX is an alternative to the AVR to distribute the decoded audio data to each speaker or subwoofer at the time it is to broadcast it.

What are today’s home audio theater system problems?

Today’s home audio theater system market is stale and primed for disruption. Major brands are offering limited wireless options with very little opportunity for system scalability. Why should you have to be constrained by their limited speaker options? Current home audio and theater systems are reliant on an audio video receiver (AVR) with expensive scalability to add more speakers. Here are some other common audio system problems:

·    Physical structure interference (i.e., walls and ceilings)

·    Radio frequency (RF) interference

·    Speaker/subwoofer channel count limitations

·    Lengthy and expensive home installations

·    Costly copper speaker wire

AUDIO Cu eliminates limitations created by structural and radio frequency (RF) interference by moving sound over the power lines. The audio can be sent across multiple circuit breakers, electrical legs, and junction boxes instantly without any sound quality issues.

For those consumers that rent and would like a true multi-speaker setup, they are limited by dwelling restrictions such as no cutting or drilling into any walls or ceilings. Also having speaker wires laying across the floor is not only a tripping hazard, but a major eye sore. Most of these types of consumers resort to sound bars due to the ease of plug and play install. Sound bars rely on “virtual” surround sound that depend on precise room specifications and reflective materials that result in a subpar virtualized surround sound environment. No sound bar can compare to a true multi-speaker setup that delivers an immersive Dolby Atmos® audio experience. AUDIO Cu has solved all these problems by now enabling consumers to have a true multi-speaker setup without any drilling, cutting, or hazardous speaker wire laying throughout the space.

Unlike a cumbersome audio video receiver (AVR) that makes it complicated to adjust any system settings, the included AUDIO Cu mobile app that works on Apple® and Android® smart devices makes it simple to set up and manage any new or existing home audio systems. Control each speaker or system individually to utilize the variety of digital signal processor (DSP) presets and listening modes.

How does AUDIO Cu solve today’s home audio theater system problems?

AUDIO Cu solves the problems that an AVR, Bluetooth, or Wi-Fi based system has had for years. By moving sound over the power lines, the need to run speaker wires from an AVR are eliminated. Both structural and radio frequency (RF) interferences are no longer an issue, as well as distance limitations that Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and WISA/WISA-e speakers have.

For decades, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi based solutions have been re-innovated to try and provide a wireless home audio solution that has all the benefits of a wired solution, but to only continue to have the same limitations if those systems are not set up in the perfect environment. AUDIO Cu does not have any of these pitfalls and works in any environment.

AUDIO Cu can detect noise on the power lines from devices such as vacuum cleaners, air conditioners, washing machines, and any appliances to determine the best way to send the packets of audio to each speaker or subwoofer without any packet loss or latency thus providing optimized sound performance.

For installers, AUDIO Cu's software integrator dashboard will ensure that along with a quick and seamless installation, they can provide the best customer service from day one. Remote access provides integrators with real-time system results for every AUDIO Cu transmitter (TX) and receiver (RX) that is installed. If a customer accidentally unplugs an AUDIO Cu unit and needs assistance, you will know exactly how to pin point and solve their issue.

AUDIO Cu is flexible, easily set up, and can be configured for any home audio solution. It also enables the consumer to grow their speaker count per their needs. Setting up a system as you move has never been easier.

AUDIO Cu greatly reduces copper needs causing an amazing environmental impact.

How does AUDIO Cu connect to my TV or projector?

The AUDIO Cu audio solution connects to the input on the back of your TV or projector labeled “HDMI-ARC” or “HDMI-eARC.” All you have to do is take the included HDMI cord and plug it into the AUDIO CU transmitter (TX) unit HDMI input, then plug the other end of the HDMI cord into the back of your TV “HDMI-ARC” or “HDMI-eARC” input, and then plug the AUDIO Cu TX unit into a power outlet. AUDIO Cu’s TX decodes the sound, and moves the audio data through the power lines to each speaker or subwoofer AUDIO Cu receiver (RX) unit. The AUDIO Cu TX is essentially replacing the AVR to distribute the decoded audio data to each speaker or subwoofer at the time it is to broadcast it. It’s that simple! From there on out you can use the included AUDIO Cu mobile app to setup and manage all of your home audio theater systems.

How does AUDIO Cu connect to my current speaker?

After you have hooked up your AUDIO Cu transmitter (TX) unit via the included HDMI cord to the input on the back of your TV or projector labeled “HDMI-ARC” or “HDMI-eARC” and then plugged it into a power outlet, you are ready to set up each speaker or subwoofer. Each speaker or subwoofer that you wish to be added to your new AUDIO Cu audio system must have an AUDIO Cu receiver (RX) unit. The AUDIO Cu RX unit will plug into a power outlet and then will plug into the positive (red) and negative (black) speaker terminals on the back of the speaker. Once each speaker is plugged into an AUDIO Cu RX unit and your TV or projector is turned on, you can begin the intuitive and user-friendly AUDIO Cu setup via the mobile app.

The same AUDIO Cu RX that works for a speaker also works for a subwoofer. Each AUDIO Cu RX unit has regular positive (red) and negative (black) speaker terminals and a line out for a subwoofer or external amplifier.

How many speaker channels does AUDIO Cu support?

AUDIO Cu can handle up to thirty-two (32) different speaker channels split between multiple audio theater systems in one (1) household. Each AUDIO Cu system can have up to ten (10) different channels. Let’s say you have five (5) different systems in your space such as follows:

·   Family Room – 5.1 Audio System

What is the maximum speaker distance with AUDIO Cu?

There can be an unlimited distance between an AUDIO Cu transmitter (TX) for your TV and an AUDIO Cu receiver (RX) for a speaker or subwoofer. You are no longer constrained by floorplans or the length of expensive speaker wire. All you need is to have a power outlet to plug a speaker or subwoofer into. For example, if you’re interested in installing speakers all throughout your entire house in multiple different rooms, your speaker limits are now only bound by your creativity. AUDIO Cu allows you to create an audio environment like you have always wanted without the headache of trying to figure out how you’re going to hide all the costly speaker cables under the couch or carpet, or even inside the walls or ceilings.

What brands of speakers is AUDIO Cu compatible with?

AUDIO Cu is compatible with all makes and models of current wired speakers out on the market. As long as your speakers have a positive (red) and negative (black) speaker terminals you are all set! You can combine all different brands and models of speakers without any issue. This allows you the ability to customize your space with the exact speakers that you want without being limited by a specific brand.

Is there any audio latency?

The AUDIO Cu audio solution has an ultra-low latency of less than 20 milliseconds which is Dolby Laboratories, Inc. required specifications. The latency is essentially so low that the human eyes and ears can’t detect any observable asynchronous audio and video issue.

How do I adjust the treble, bass, equalizer, or choose audio presets?

All these settings can be found in the AUDIO Cu solution mobile app that works on Apple and Android mobile smart devices. It empowers the user to control individual speaker DSP audio effects, as well as the entire audio system allowing for a much more sophisticated and user-friendly experience in comparison to a typical audio video receiver (AVR). For example, you may want the rear speakers behind your couch to have more treble and less bass, while you may want the center channel to have more bass and less treble. The AUDIO Cu audio solution app allows you to customize your audio experience to your exact liking. The mobile app is also loaded with several audio presets, so you don’t need to worry about getting too technical if you don’t want to.

Since AUDIO Cu uses the power lines to move audio, is my electric bill going to be higher?

No, your electric bill will not be any higher. Our AUDIO Cu transmitter (TX) and receiver (RX) units are running efficiently on a low power eco mode when the audio system is not in use. When the audio system is in use, there is essentially the same amount of power being distributed to each of the speakers that would typically be distributed by an audio video receiver (AVR). Rest assured there will not be any new spikes in your electric bill and you can equate the power usage of AUDIO Cu to that of a fifteen (15) watt lightbulb.

Do I need to turn AUDIO Cu on and pair it every time I want to use it?

No, you absolutely do not. AUDIO Cu is always on and is always aware if there is audio to distribute to your speakers or subwoofers. For example, let’s assume you have already set up your family room TV to distribute all audio through the “HDMI-eARC” which is what your AUDIO Cu system is hooked up to, then any audio being played will come out of all those specific AUDIO Cu enabled speakers or subwoofers.

Do I need to use the AUDIO Cu mobile app to control the volume of the audio?

No, you do not. You have the option to use your regular TV/projector remote or the AUDIO Cu solution mobile app that works on Apple and Android mobile smart devices. You can use whichever medium is most convenient for you.

Do I need both an AUDIO Cu transmitter (TX) unit and an AUDIO Cu receiver (RX) unit to make my audio system work?

Yes, you need both an AUDIO Cu transmitter (TX) unit and AUDIO Cu receiver (RX) units to make AUDIO Cu function. For example, let’s use a 5.1 home audio theater system to plan out what you will need.

·   1 AUDIO Cu TX unit per home audio or theater system = 1 AUDIO CU TX unit

·   1 AUDIO Cu RX unit (per speaker or subwoofer) x 6 (5 speakers and 1 subwoofer) = 6 AUDIO Cu RX units

So, in total for a 5.1 system, you will have 1 AUDIO Cu TX unit, and 6 AUDIO Cu RX units as each speaker or subwoofer requires their own. The AUDIO Cu TX unit is replacing an audio video receiver (AVR), and each AUDIO Cu RX unit is replacing the lengthy speaker wire that you typically must run from the back of the AVR to each individual speaker. You are essentially saving money and time not buying a crazy expensive AVR and a lot of speaker wire. Not to mention that you no longer have to worry about home construction within regards to hiding speaker wires in walls or ceilings.

Can I watch anything with AUDIO Cu?

With AUDIO Cu you are able to continue watching your favorite shows and movies from your favorite streaming platforms such as Netflix, Disney+, Hulu, HBO, Starz, Paramount, and much more. The only difference is now you can have an immersive home audio system with the exact setup you want without emptying your pockets or sacrificing performance.

How does AUDIO Cu help the environment?

AUDIO Cu eliminates the requirement for expensive copper speaker wire to run from each speaker to the audio video receiver (AVR). It also completely eliminates the need for an AVR in every home audio or theater system causing an amazingly positive environmental impact. Currently, only 48% of speaker wiring material can be recycled. With AUDIO Cu, 86% of speaker wiring material can be recycled.
